Daily Channeling for Oct 10, 2009
June: Yesterday you said you would speak about the relationships between parents and young adults in these times.
* Yes, here we go. The generation gap concept is still relevant, but the tools are different. Today's youth is smarter in many ways than their parents, because they are more easily updated with what is going on. It is true that everyone is meeting the many changes, including the youth, but their tools are different because they came into life with the potential to bring about real change, but all of them have had to grow up in the deteriorating world of today. It is like they know 10 languages, but are only able to speak 3 in their current circumstances, so their is frustration inside youth today that is hard sometimes for the parents to understand because they only know three languages, and are not always aware even of the existence of the other seven.
June: So what do you suggest for better communication?
* We are not finished yet with our description of what is. The parents' generation is full of misgivings and hope for their children's future, but life has not turned out to be what they thought it would be, so they are basically speechless in the wake of what is going on. Parents do not really know how to help their children, and the sooner they can realize this, let go and trust their children to find their way with these extra languages that they have, the better.
June: I totally see that and understand that. And I have experienced that. More than once I have asked you what to do about my children's challenges, and the answer I have always gotten is one word - "nothing". Now I understand where that answer came from. And it liberates me from having to solve their problems or feel guilty that I cannot.
* Trusting your children's innate intelligence is the only answer to the communication concept between generations. Which leaves the parents with one option - to listen only. And to stay present when the children are expressing themselves and "thinking out loud".
June: Yes, I got that. Thank you!
