June: I wanted to ask about obedience of animals.
* Well, it very much depends what it is based upon, fear, or trust and love.
June: I totally hear that, I prefer it being based on trust and love.
* You have experienced it with your dogs.
June: Yes, but sometimes I feel like I need to give them a "time out" and then they do see the change in me and I sense a resistance in them.
* Well, obedience has to do with overcoming a natural resistance to something and being willing to do it anyway. Your dogs are learning to have the discipline it takes to be obedient. The two go together.
June: So the story about the stick and the carrot is true and accurate. Both are needed.
* Yes, because of the resistance, there needs to be a motive to overcome it, and have enough practice to ingrain the new behavior into the moving center of the animals, their automatic systems.
